About Lachit Divas 2022

Assam celebrates Lachit Divas every year on 24th Nov.2022 in honor of Lachit Barphukan, a great military general of the Ahom Kingdom. 

During the Battle of Saraighat in 1671, Lachit Barphukan led the Ahom army to victory over the mighty Mughal forces, led by Mir Jumla. This victory ended Mughal expansion in Assam for good. 

As a result, Lachit Divas is a day of remembrance and honor for the great patriot and warrior Lachit Barphukan, who sacrificed his life for the sake of his country.

Instructions for the 400th Birthday Celebration of Lachit Borphukan (Lachit Divas 2022)

On 2/4 November 2022, the Government of Assam will mark the 400th birth anniversary of Bir Lachit Borphukan at Vigyan Bhawan in New Delhi in a befitting manner throughout the state. Assam’s Government Higher Education Department has issued instructions to all State Universities and Government / Provincialised Colleges in the state to comply with the requirements in the prescribed format.

These are–

The Universities, Colleges, and Technical Institutions of Assam are requested to organize an Essay Competition on Lachit Barphukan on the 19th of November 2022 in their institutions and to award prizes to the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd best writers.

Assam district administration will arrange transportation to New Delhi for 200 students from various colleges to attend Lachit Divas in coordination with ASTC.

To participate in the event, liaison the tour, and guide students during the event and tour, a team of twenty faculty members from various Universities and Colleges of Assam has been formed.

We have selected two students from 100 colleges and universities across the state to attend the Lachit Divas at Vigyan Bhawan.

For the celebration of Lachit Divas on 20th November 2022, all the Universities, Colleges, Technical Institutions, and communities of Assam are requested to organize blood donation camps and other social service programs.

It is requested that all Universities, Colleges, and Technical Institutions in Assam hold Innovative Programmes among their students, faculty members, and staff members on the 21st, 22nd, and 23rd of November 2022.

All students, faculty, and staff members of Assam’s Universities, Colleges, and Technical Institutions are requested to watch the live telecast of the event at Vigyan Bhawan on November 24.

Nodal teacher to upload essay templates in case students/faculty/employees are unable to do so themselves.

Students, faculty, and employees from other languages may be encouraged to write in their native tongues. 

A total of 10 universities, colleges, and technical institutions have been requested to encourage students to participate in a brand display to be organized by the district administration on 18/11/2022.
